Live Football!!!
It has been my wish to see to a live football match. Ofcourse, being in Mumbai it is not possible as we do not have a proper stadium here. But I decided I will have to do with watching National Football League in the rundown Cooperage stadium. I made it to the Air India Vs East Bengal game on 07 Jan 07 and Mahindra Utd Vs Mohan Bagan on 14 Jan 07.
Air India Vs East Bengal
The picture pasted beside shows the nature of the stadium and crowd. As you can see the stands are just wooden planks and they quite far from the playing field. This ground has been more used for marriages than for football. But last year thanks to a High court order, marriages are not permitted at least for now.
The game itself was quite dull. Air India being the home team, the crowd was per dominantly supporting them. The match ended 1 - 0 with Samson Singh scoring the winner at 71 st minute. He had just come on as a substitute. The man of the match was the impressive Air India defender Benoy Kuruvila.

Mahindra United Vs Mohan Bagan
Mahindra United are the defending champions and Mohan Bagan are favorites for this year having spend heavily this season. Their strikers Baichung Bhutia and Brazilian Barretto are considered to be the best in the league. It was a very interesting game and the stands were packed. Huge number of Mohan Bagan supporters were present. In fact I was surrounded by Bagan fans.
Bhaichung started well with a score in the seventh minute. But the attack of Mahindra United partnership at the top of Yusif Yakubu (man of the match) and Pomeyie was menacing and plenty of defensive and goalkeeping errors on the part of Bagan helped Mahindra.
In the end it was a very one sided scoreline 4-1 for Mahindra United. In fact it could have been more for the Mumbai team, had Yusif converted the penalty given towards the end of the game.
